A Fun 2-Hour Introduction to AI for Children

Draw It. Imagine It. Bring It to Life with AI.

What if your child could draw something on paper…

…and then watch it become a colorful digital picture?

What if that picture could move?

What if they could invent a character, animal, vehicle or fantasy world — and use AI to bring their imagination to life?

AI Play & Create for Kids is a fun, practical and age-appropriate 2-hour workshop designed especially for children ages 4–6 (Early Learners) and ages 7–9 (Junior Primary).

Children explore AI through drawing, storytelling, images, animation and simple learning activities in a guided environment.

No coding.
No complicated technology.
Just creativity, curiosity and fun.

Quick Answer

What is AI Play & Create for Kids?

AI Play & Create for Kids is a 2-hour in-person workshop where young children discover AI through creative activities.

Children may:

  • turn their paper drawings into colorful digital artwork
  • animate their own pictures
  • create funny or imaginative characters
  • build a short story
  • ask AI simple questions
  • play learning and quiz activities
  • discover that AI can sometimes make mistakes
  • learn basic AI safety

The workshop is designed to make AI visual, playful and easy to understand.

What Will Your Child Do?

1. Turn a Paper Drawing into Digital Art

Children start with something familiar:

their own drawing.

It could be:

  • an animal
  • a car
  • a house
  • a superhero
  • a robot
  • a fantasy creature
  • anything they imagine

Then we explore how AI can transform that drawing into a colorful digital picture.

The important part is that the idea begins with the child.

2. Make Their Picture Move

After creating a digital version of their drawing, children explore simple animation.

For example:

  • make a dinosaur walk
  • make a cat wave
  • make a rocket fly
  • make a character dance
  • make a fantasy creature move through a magical world

Children see how an idea can move from:

Paper → Digital Picture → Animation

3. Create Their Own Character

Children imagine a new character and decide things such as:

  • name
  • colors
  • clothes
  • personality
  • superpower
  • favorite food
  • where the character lives

AI helps visualize the character based on the child’s imagination.

This helps children understand a very simple concept:

The clearer the idea, the better AI can help create it.

4. Build a Tiny Story

Children can use their character in a short story.

For example:

“A little dragon gets lost in Muscat and tries to find its way home.”

or:

“A superhero cat travels to the moon.”

The child provides the idea.

AI helps turn it into a simple story or illustrated scene.

5. Learn and Play with AI

Children also discover that AI can be used for simple learning activities such as:

  • animal questions
  • vocabulary
  • simple maths
  • spelling
  • riddles
  • picture-based quizzes
  • fun general knowledge questions

This introduces AI as both a creative tool and a learning tool.

A Different Experience for children

Young children should not learn AI through long explanations or complicated prompts.

This workshop is built around:

See → Imagine → Create → Play → Learn

Activities are visual, interactive and guided.

For Ages 4–6

Younger children participate mainly through:

  • drawing
  • speaking
  • choosing
  • imagining
  • visual activities
  • instructor or parent assistance

They are not expected to type long instructions or use AI independently.

For Ages 7–9

Older children can take a little more control through:

  • simple typing
  • describing their ideas
  • asking basic questions
  • choosing styles
  • helping create characters and stories
  • simple guided AI interaction

Parent-Guided and Age-Appropriate

For younger children, a parent may stay involved during selected parts of the workshop.

This is especially useful for:

  • helping the child express ideas
  • supporting device use
  • understanding how AI is being introduced
  • learning how to continue safe activities at home

The purpose is not unsupervised AI use.

It is guided discovery.

A Simple Introduction to AI Safety

Children learn three important rules:

AI Can Be Wrong

AI does not always give the correct answer.

Ask an Adult

If something looks strange, confusing or inappropriate, ask a parent or teacher.

Keep Private Information Private

Children should never share:

  • home address
  • passwords
  • phone numbers
  • private family information
  • school or personal details unnecessarily

These concepts are introduced simply and appropriately for their age.

What Children Will Take Away

By the end of the workshop, children will have experienced how AI can help them:

  • create
  • imagine
  • explore
  • learn
  • tell stories
  • turn drawings into digital creations

Depending on the activities completed, they may also take home digital versions of their artwork or animation.
